MINI ROCKETMAN CONCEPT.
Hallmark MINI design language in a particularly concentrated form.
Taking its design cues from the original Alec Issigonis MINI introduced over 50 years ago, while raising the bar of future automotive design in terms of technological advancements, the MINI Rocketman Concept is truly the epitome of the subcompact car concept for the premium segment. A 3+1 seater with 3 doors measuring a mere 3 metres in length, the MINI Rocketman Concept blends the brand’s core values of ingenious functionality, smile-inducing agility, exceptional efficiency and irresistible design into an extraordinarily attractive and groundbreaking vehicle that can only be defined as MINI.
Large wheels and the three-level structural split of the body in addition to the wraparound greenhouse and roof resting top from the current MINI models are dominant characteristics in this new concept study. Among the concept’s key design and functionality-related innovations are the two side doors with integrated sills and external carbon-fiber double hinges that enable the doors to pivot out and away from the body, providing easy access to all seats, even in tight spaces. Another innovative characteristic of the MINI Rocketman Concept is the transparent and lighted glass roof showcasing roof braces arranged in the pattern of bars on the British Union Jack flag. Using innovative technology and creative solutions, the MINI Rocketman Concept reflects MINI’s unsurpassed expertise in the development of vehicle concepts producing maximum interior versatility within minimal exterior dimensions – and all while delivering unbeatable driving fun.

BMW i.
Born Electric.
Being on the cutting edge of innovation has positioned BMW at the forefront of luxury car brands world-wide. The recent launch of BMW’s new sub-brand: BMW i, focused on developing premium sustainable mobility solutions solidifies the brand’s leadership role in revolutionizing mobility in our future. Two models will be launched under the BMW i brand from 2013 – the BMW i3 and BMW i8.
The BMW i3 will be the first series-produced car by BMW driven solely by electric power, while the BMW i8 is based on the highly acclaimed BMW EfficientDynamics concept, which blends the sporting capacity of a high-performance machine with the low fuel emissions and consumption of a small vehicle through its plug-in hybrid drive. Both models are based on a revolutionary construction concept: “LifeDrive” architecture, with a lightweight aluminum chassis housing the powertrain and a carbon fibre passenger compartment. “We used the innovative architecture and (carbon fibre) to cancel out practically all of the extra weight added by the batteries…this means superior driving dynamics combined with significantly increase range using electric power,” explains Klaus Draeger, BMW Board member responsible for development.
In addition to the development of premium electric vehicles, the BMW i sub-brand will also focus on the growth of premium car networking and other “mobility services” such as, “intermodal route planning and premium car-sharing.” Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing captured the essence of BMW i beautifully, “The products and services have been conceived around a revolutionary approach: purpose designed and purpose built for sustainable, premium mobility. It’s a new day in our industry; a new era for individual mobility. This is BMW i – Born Electric.” Please visit the official BMW i website for more information.

APRIL TIP OF THE MONTH:
Get your MINI ready for Spring.
|
 |
The cold, long winters of Ontario really take a toll on our cars as we maneuver our way through the snow and pothole filled streets. Those of you with a MINI convertible are surely counting down the days until the top-down weather is upon us again. Now that the snow is slowly disappearing, it’s the best time to start getting your MINI ready for the warm weather. Here’s some spring cleaning tips to ensure your MINI is in pristine condition and ready to welcome the sun!
Source: driving.ca
CLEANING:
- Give your car a thorough washing on the exterior to remove layers of winter salt
- Clean the interior thoroughly to remove grim and bacteria
- Tip: For optimal results, clean floor mats with a self-service car wash pressure wand
- Don't apply water directly to car's flooring, instead use a stiff nylon brush and vacuum to get rid of salt stains
- Clean windows with household glass cleaner or warm water with vinegar
SERVICING:
- Disc brakes are one of the most critical parts of your car affected by winter slush and salt, if your brakes haven't been checked in a year, now is the perfect time
- Have steering and suspension parts such as ball joints and tie rod ends checked as frost-heaved roads and the odd curb hit could loosen these parts
- Check your owner's manual schedule to determine if your car's fluids or oils need to be changed
