BMW ANNOUNCES SERIAL PRODUCTION OF SPORTS CAR WITH PLUG-IN HYBRID TECHNOLOGY
The Future of Driving Pleasure: Vision EfficientDynamics
Alongside the Megacity Vehicle project, BMW has announced the serial production of the Vision EfficientDynamics supercar within the next few years. A four-seater sports car with charismatic design, fascinating performance figures and unsurpassed efficiency, powered by BMW ActiveHybrid technology, the Vision EfficientDynamics incorporates characteristic BMW shaping style, featuring the twin kidney grills, L-shaped taillights and wing doors facilitating entry to both rows of seats.
What’s even more fascinating than its superior styling is the performance. The innovative design of BMW ActiveHybrid technology allows performance figures at the level of a sports car, with approximately 330 hp and over 580 lb-ft of torque, the Vision EfficientDynamics reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. Furthermore, using a 1.5-liter three-cylinder diesel engine tied to two electric motors, the car will sip just 3.76 L/100 km in mixed city and highway driving. Like the Megacity Vehicle, the sports car based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics study is an example of how future-oriented mobility opens up fascinating perspectives in combination with the driving pleasure characteristic of BMW.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The benefit of foresight.
The Head-up Display helps BMW drivers maintain concentration on the road ahead by displaying driving-related information in a safe and effective manner. This information is projected onto the windscreen within the driver’s direct field of vision; therefore, the driver does not have to divert his gaze away from the road. Consequently, any distraction from the traffic situation is reduced to a minimum. The virtual image appears approximately two metres away, at the end of the hood. The feature is available as an add-on option on most new BMW models.

BMW TORONTO AND MINI DOWNTOWN FEATURE STORY ON THESTAR.COM
thestar.com | December 9th 2010
|
 |
The Toronto Star's Christopher Hume visited MINI Downtown and BMW Toronto dealerships for a feature story on thestar.com. Hume says, "There was a time when car dealerships all looked pretty much the same: nondescript lots with a boxy showrooms...those days are coming to an end - at least in downtown Toronto as car dealerships like BMW Toronto and MINI Downtown have become very urban and in the process discovered the power of architecture." He goes on to say that "MINI Downtown is undoubtedly the most beautiful car dealership in our city...becoming a place that people enjoy seeing and not just because they have to see it." MINI DRIVING FUN FOR THE TWO-WHEEL SEGMENT
MINI Scooter E Concept.
For the 2010 Paris Autoshow, MINI launched two concept scooters, dubbed MINI Scooter E Concept. The two concept scooters incorporate the full MINI characteristics, including the MINI design language, driving fun, technology, and the MINI individual style.
As the name may suggest, the MINI Scooter E Concept is a full electric vehicle. This is an emission-free MINI for today’s busy urban environment. The electric drive plays a key role in this vehicle and allows the MINI Scooter E Concept to deliver the driving fun associated with the brand in a new and highly contemporary package. The instantaneous pick-up of electric drive systems, plus the vehicle’s low weight and compact dimensions, ensure maximum agility in typical traffic conditions on urban roads. In every possible sense of the word, this scooter is truly MINI.

JOY IS LESS AND MORE.
8-Speed Automatic Transmission: Comfort Meets Efficiency.
This month’s EfficientDynamics focus is on BMW’s new 8-Speed Automatic Transmission. Did you know a car’s transmission can have a big impact on its fuel efficiency? Although much of a car's performance and efficiency depends on its engine, BMW's 8-speed Automatic transmission greatly improves acceleration and fuel efficiency. It is optimized for improved acceleration in lower gears, while two additional “tall” gears provide smooth, efficient, and quiet highway cruising at lower RPMs and with lower fuel consumption. The 8-speed automatic transmission is available on the 2011 BMW 760Li, 5-Series Sedan, 5-Series Gran Turismo, X6 Sport Activity Coupe, and X5 Sport Activity Vehicle (not available on X5 xDrive35d).

JANUARY TIP OF THE MONTH:
Better driving habits and proper maintenance could improve your fuel economy by 10 percent.
|
 |
In a recent article in the Toronto Star by Jil McIntosh, several tips to improve fuel economy were highlighted and we found it answered many questions that our customers ask us, so we would like to pass on the information to you, in light of the spike in gas prices recently in the GTA.
Here’s a summary of the article, Cheap tricks can save you cash (October 27th, Section A, page 12):
With just a few changes to your driving habits, and a little more attention to maintenance, you could squeeze 10 percent more fuel economy out of your current ride, no matter what type it is. Best of all, almost all of the fuel-saving tricks come at little or no cost.
- Check your tires: Underinflated tires run hotter and have more rolling resistance, using more fuel, while tires with too much air wear unevenly. Even if your car has a tire-pressure monitoring system, you should still check the pressure once a month, since your tires can be wasting fuel before they reach the safety threshold measured by the system.
- Use your foot smoothly: Practice consistent throttle pressure to maintain your speed. Accelerate gradually and smoothly and you’ll save fuel.
- Lose the weight: If you’re hauling unnecessary items, take them out of your trunk or cargo area because you’re burning extra fuel hauling them around. If it’s possible, take off your roof racks when you’re not using them too.
- Look ahead: Your car uses the most fuel moving away from a standing stop, so if you can, coast toward red lights and watch for traffic slowdowns ahead of you and let off the throttle rather than jamming on the brakes at the last minute and accelerating back up to speed again.
- Drive smart in winter: Idle your car just long enough that the defrosters get the frost off the windshield. Letting it run until it’s warm inside wastes fuel. Use winter-specific tires to avoid spinning and sliding.
- Use the right fuel grade: If your car is rated for premium fuel, don’t use regular grade. The computer will retard the car’s performance to prevent engine damage and your fuel economy will suffer.
- Watch your speed: Quite simply, the faster you go, the more it costs.
- Pay attention to service: Although newer cars can go longer between oil changes, they still need to be serviced periodically. A dirty engine air filter can translate to poorer fuel economy.
