RENE CORMIER | GLOBETROTTING CANADIAN MOTORCYCLIST BRINGS A RETURN PERFORMANCE TO TORONTO
Canadian motorcycle adventurer Rene Cormier brings an inspiring slideshow and talk to Toronto showcasing his four-year,
154,000 kilometers around-the-world motorcycle odyssey aboard a BMW F650.
BMW Toronto presents Cormier and his well-used motorcycle at:
Location: BMW Toronto, 11 Sunlight Park Road, Toronto
Date: May 26
Time: 7pm-9pm
Admission is free
Cormier will be stopping in Toronto as part of his second cross-Canada speaking tour. His book "The University of Gravel
Roads: Global Lessons From a Four-Year Motorcycle Adventure" won the Bronze medal in the 2010 Independent
Publisher Book Awards.
He was included as one of four well known motorcycle adventurers to appear on “Road Heroes”, a DVD of global travel
stories to be released in May, 2011 by Horizons Unlimited, the worlds largest motorcycle traveling website.
Backgrounder:
Cormier started his journey to see the world from Vancouver in 2003 on a BMW F650GS motorcycle. He returned 154,000
kilometers later with Pakistani art gracing the front of his BMW and stamps from 41 countries in his passport.
This will be the second tour across Canada speaking about his adventures.
“During last year’s speaking tour I addressed more than 1000 riders about my travels. At this winters motorcycle shows
I was overwhelmed by new riders who have recently discovered adventure riding and whose enthusiasm is highly
contagious. The interest in adventure riding is skyrocketing and I am fortunate to be able to share my unique riding history
with others who are eager to get adventures of their own underway.”
Cormier will review the logistics of being on a multi-year trip with a $25/day budget and bring a new selection of tales from
the road to the stage. While there is an obvious emphasis on motorcycles, the story of exploring the beauty of this planet
is one that Cormier says appeals to everyone. “Imagine beautiful parts of the world as seen on the Discovery or National
Geographic channel. Don’t let the tv folks have all the fun. Use your motorcycle to get there and see this world up close
and personal. The world is too magnificent not to experience it for yourself!

Off Road Rider Training
Over 85% of the world’s roads are not paved, and we’re interested in seeing all of them!
We’re hosting a Level II program at the Canadian Motorcycle Training Services facility at Horseshoe Valley on Saturday, May 28th. These programs have an obvious direct benefit for those riders who own or are considering a GS and the world of adventure that comes with such a bike. However, this program is also for street riders. The balance, poise and skill set that you will be introduced to translate directly into skills that you will put to use on your street motorcycle. The Level II program is appropriate for those who have a fair bit of off-road experience already.
The BMW Toronto group rate is $299 plus HST. This price includes use of the school’s motorcycle and full gear, head to toe. Road bike gear, even the excellent BMW stuff, is discouraged. For those of you who wish to use your own GS for the afternoon, the price is $199 plus HST. There’s definitely value in doing some learning on the bike that you will ride on moving forward. To register, please contact CMTS at 705 835 2790 ext 1288. CMTS will ask for all the pertinent info from you (experience, size, etc.) to put you on the appropriate bike and in the right gear.

EMMA FARQUHARSON’S FIRST REVIEW: THE 2011 BMW F800GS
An off-road, off-route city slicker.
Emma Farquharson, copywriter and founding director of Toronto blog, Mushy Pony, has been riding for four years. You can frequently see her cruising around downtown Toronto on her R1200R. Together with BMW Toronto Motorrad, she will test ride our bikes (as well as our gear) and evaluate how it appeals to the female demographic.
First up for the test is the F800GS. Here’s a brief taste of the stellar article: “After practically pulling a wheelie out of the dealership, I wondered how exactly this copious amount of horsepower (85 to be exact) and light-weight maneuverability would appeal to downtown Toronto driving. There’s no point explaining the benefits of its off-road enduro features because frankly, there is no competition out there. This is the bike for dual-sport riding, whether you’re Ewan Mcgregor ploughing through rivers in Magadan, or scooting up to Muskoka on a gravel road…”
