Exterior - The front apron is finished almost entirely in body colour. Impressive air intakes and elegant silver matt slats emphasise its broad stance. The distinctive front section lends the vehicle that typical X look. A striking appearance that is further enhanced by Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. Front and rear underride protection in matt aluminium finish completes the sporty and robust exterior design of the BMW X5. Its very appearance radiates innovative power.

The long wheel base and short overhangs at the front and rear define the dynamic proportions of the BMW X5. The muscular bonnet thrusts forward, while the contoured flanks and L-shaped rear lights with LED technology create an air of elegant composure. Interior - Enjoy every kilometre to the full inside the high-calibre cockpit of the BMW X5, where the elevated seating position gives you an optimal view of the road. • Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. Optional, for added convenience and active safety in stop-and-go traffic. The system measures the gap to the vehicle ahead on an ongoing basis and automatically maintains an appropriate distance. Once the lane ahead becomes free, the system accelerates again up to the desired speed.

• Park Distance Control, Rear View camera and Top View. The optional Park Distance Control (PDC) uses optical and acoustic signals to ensure comfortable and safe parking. Top View offers the driver a 270-degree overview of their surroundings while manoeuvring the vehicle. It is represented as a projection from above in the Control Display. In addition, the optional Rear View camera provides a better view when you’re reversing at under 20 km/h or parking.

• BMW Connected App. With the Apps option, an iPhone and the free BMW Connected App from the Apple App Store, you’ll always be well informed. Using iDrive, you can easily select web radio stations from around the world. You can also call up the latest status reports from your Facebook or Twitter accounts and view upcoming appointments on the Control Display, or even have them read to you through the audio system’s speakers. New features include RSS feeds for news and Wiki Local, which allows you to source Wikipedia information on your local area.

• BMW Head-Up Display. The BMW Head-Up Display is optionally available to help you keep your eyes on the road ahead. Relevant driving information is projected directly in the driver’s field of vision via a two-colour TFT display. It shows, for example, the vehicle’s speed, navigation directions or information from the Speed Limit Info option.

4. EFFICIENT DYNAMICS

BMW EfficientDynamics, included as standard, is a comprehensive technology package designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions – while simultaneously enhancing dynamic performance.

THE BMW X5 EFFICIENT DYNAMICS FEATURES AT A GLANCE.

BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. BMW TwinPower Turbo combines the latest injection technologies for enhanced efficiency with fully variable performance control featuring innovative turbocharging technology for a more dynamic ride.

Eight-speed automatic transmission. The particularly smooth gear shifts of the eight-speed automatic transmission produce greater engine efficiency at every speed. The result: a reduction in fuel consumption and more comfortable gear changes.

Tires with reduced rolling-resistance. While the car is in motion, the tires are constantly changing shape, using up energy and fuel. Tires with reduced rolling-resistance have an improved design and use special materials for their road treads, thus reducing deformation.

Air vent control. A sensor determines the engine’s changing cooling requirements while underway, rendering a permanent airstream through the radiator unnecessary. The air vents in front of the radiator open and shut depending on the environmental temperature and the road speed. When shut they enhance the aerodynamics, cut the engine’s warm-up time and so reduce fuel consumption.

5. SAFETY

Many systems are intelligently interconnected, and their interaction is what gives you maximum safety along with utmost driving pleasure.

Double-wishbone front axle. Reduces to a minimum the disruptions caused by adverse driving conditions. The construction of the double-joint spring strut reduces damaging longitudinal and lateral forces on the dampers, enabling them to react to uneven road surfaces with even greater precision. Both the front and rear axles are made predominantly from aluminium. This reduces the unsprung weight and increases passenger comfort even further.

Adaptive Drive. The optional Adaptive Drive package includes Servotronic for the optimisation of steering transmission for normal and sporty driving and combines both active suspension control systems, Dynamic Drive and Dynamic Damper Control. This system includes an individual bumper adjustment – Dynamic Drive ensures that active stabilisers on the front and rear axles minimise body roll till it is almost unnoticeable. So passengers will enjoy increased relaxation or the opportunity to get some work done in peace.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). Highly sensitive sensors constantly assess the vehicle’s situation in real time and optimise directional stability and traction where necessary by intervening in the engine and brake management. In addition, the BMW X5 features Hill-Start assistant, which prevents the vehicle rolling back for one and a half seconds once the foot brake is released. So the vehicle is easier to control in tricky situations; actively increasing safety as well as driving pleasure.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). This adjunct to Dynamic Stability Control has been specially tailored to the BMW X5 and offers unparalleled propulsive power in off-piste driving situations. Activated at the push of a button, the traction mode increases tolerance for wheel slip and improves initial acceleration on loose snow or sand as the wheels spin more lightly. The DTC thus delays the intervention of the Dynamic Stability Control, even on asphalt, for better controlled drifting – and a more intense driving experience.

Hill Descent Control (HDC). Hill Descent Control (HDC) enables your BMW to automatically take even the steepest downhill gradients safely and reliably – without the driver having to brake. With the Cruise Control with braking function, vehicle speed can also be controlled via a lever to the side of the steering column.

Body rigidity. The system of members and node connections in the functionally constructed body structure as well as a strategic deployment of high-strength materials combine to deliver maximum passive safety, protecting from a front, side or rear crash. This rigid body structure is also a crucial factor in the vehicle’s noticeably dynamic driving characteristics.
